Kelly looked at her watch for the upteenth time, Daniel was supposed to come by now, she thought. She adjusted her frames, being shortsighted has it's shortcomings. A whole lot of shortcomings. Kelly shook her head as she sat on the swinging chair. She started reminiscing of when she fell head over heels with Daniel.
Everyone had always made fun of her because she had a way of walking into things and knocking them down or walking into people. High school was really tough and she was popular in a way that made her hide her face every time, until Daniel showed up and became her hero. All the while people made fun of her, her best friend was away, travelled overseas to see her parents. It was a relief to see someone stand up to the bullies on her behalf. Daniel and Kelly became friends and study buddies even though Daniel was ahead by a year. It's been three weeks her friend Valerie came back from the States and today is Valentine's day. When Daniel told her to meet him at the playground on the Valentine's day, she was ecstatic and her heart ran a mile a second.
She felt him before he got to her.
"Hello smiley..." Kelly blushed like a school girl she is.
"Hello back at you. Happy Valentine's day to you"
Daniel smiled and looked down for a second then brought his left hand forward from his back. Kelly saw a wrapped gift and a letter.
"Kelly, please can you give this to Valerie. Ever since I saw her, I have been thinking about her all the time and I really hope she will accept me."
The world fell off Kelly's feet and she almost fell off the swing.
She went numb on the inside.
"It's everything alright?" Daniel asked.
Dumb question, Kelly thought. In the end, she is still at the other side where nobody really wants her.
