CONSPIRACY

I struggled against the fog that clouded my vision. Why can't I see through it? The fog felt like wool over my eyelids. Oh my God! Am I drowning? Someone please help me? I heard a voice through the fog, it was so low I could barely hear it. I strained and I heard "Melanie, Mel, can you hear me? You need to wake up and fight. Your husband is about to take over your inheritance."
Who is this person? I wondered, then I remembered. Even in the haze and fog, I felt a blinding headache as I fought to remember. Mandy! That's Mandy my forever best friend. I struggled through the fog and water and I finally surfaced. Her face was blurry for a while then it came into view. I tried to say something but my throat couldn't work. Immediately she gave me water and I sipped.
"How long have I been out, Mandy?"
Mandy dabbed her eyes as she smiled through the tears. "10 days, Melanie. It's been one heck of a ruckus. Your husband has been the perfect picture of grieve, updating everyone through the national television that you might not make it. You need to stop him. He is about to take over all your father's company that he left in your name."
"How is my son, Mandy?"
Mandy blinked, momentarily at loss of words before she said, "He is with Michael, his father."
I smiled, "that's okay, Mandy. When is the take over scheduled?
"8:00 pm today."
"Alright, help me get out of here. Call someone."
Immediately Mandy left. I tried to lift myself up, I cursed my lack of strength. After, a bit of struggle, I removed the IV and pressed a button underneath my bed. As if on cue, a hidden door to my private hospital room opened and Michael appeared. Without much Ado, lifted me up and disappeared behind the door.
I imagined the look on Mandy's face when she returns. Serves her right for orchestrating a failed attempt on my life, for sleeping with my husband, for trying to take over my inheritance with my husband and for trying to kill me a second time. She thought I wouldn't know but she forgot I am my father's daughter.
