A Vegetable Husband

People often say the most critical age of one's life, where life's decision is made is in the 20s. I guess that was the exact age where the problem in our family started from. My mother did a grave mistake marrying my father.

It was 07:00am in the morning, mother was preparing for the market while my father lied down, obviously still chasing a treasure in his dream.
"Pam pam pam." mother's slap landed on my father's leg.
He groan as he slowly came to live. "Adi Ize, you are still sleeping. It's still early in the morning, your fellow men are already on their way to the farm, some have gone to their place of work but you are still on bed. I can't struggle for Wassce fee and still raise three children's school fees, why are you torturing me? You've never given me money for a complete square meal a day, I thought you will change at the sight of this too many responsibilities but it seems I was wrong." Her voice were filled with pain and anger but father didn't say a word.
He sat on the bed, looking away from his wife.

Mother rushed out almost knocking me down at the door, I will be skipping school today, I need to hawk at the market so we can raise brother's wassce fee. Before leaving with my mother I decided to meet my dad.
"Good morning Adami."
"Good morning, how was your night?"

"It was fine. Adami, please give me #50 for my morning food. Mother couldn't cook before leaving."

"Look I don't have money here, you should have asked your mother before she left, please don't disturb me." He gently lie on the bed, set to begin another round of sleep.

I hurried to catch up with mother on the road, I took the bad she held on her hand.

"Mother please pray for me."
My word took her aback. "Over what." She asked starring at me.

"I don't want to marry someone life father when I grow up."
"Of course inya, you will not come across someone like him, my youthful age was a mistake because I chose him, that is the course of my problems now. God will wipe out suffering from your path, my mistake shall be a breakthrough for you."

"Amin, thank you mother." I hugged her hand as she pat my head with the other.
The world will sink if all fathers were like mine. I will do my children a favour by now marrying a vegetable man. I assured myself, binding the word with the young sprouting sun.
