Eze paused for a second, second guessing himself before he went farther than this. He was at the boundary between their village and the forbidden lands. "Never go to the forbidden lands on a Wednesday ", the final words of his mother before she went to the market played in his head.

No one in the village ever went to the forbidden lands on a Wednesday. This was because it was believed that a monster came to feast there on that day. It was believed that any one who saw the monster was sure to go deaf. The last known person that went there on a Wednesday never came back. That was just two weeks ago. Others took it as a confirmation of the story. Eze however, believed that the last person that went there saw something that made him stay. He told himself that he would go to the forbidden land on a Wednesday should the opportunity present itself. Words would fail to express the joy he felt when his mother told him she was going to the market today and guess what today was a Wednesday. "They are all cowards. The story is just a fable" he said to himself as he walked into the forbidden lands.

Just when he was halfway to the land, he heard some noise but they were not noise. It was his mother's word ringing in his head. "Eze, never go to the forbidden land." He paused for a while and reflect on weather he should go or turn back, but being the stubborn boy he is, he waved it off and continued his walk.

He finally reached there but met the place to be quiet "I said it, the villagers are just filled with lies." he said aloud. Just then the leaves started to shake in anger and a forceful wave blew him to the ground. He managed to open his eyes as he saw the most terrifying thing in his life. Two monsters with horrific look. They laughed.
"I thought humans will never fall prey to us again." The first monster said. "I told you there are still fools among them, children who does not listen to their parents. Thanks for coming, we have started loosing our power because humans have refused to visit our abode, making it impossible for us to get their sense of hearing. We don't have lasting ears but the ones we take from them, this is where our power lies. You just extended our lifespan." He said as they both laughed wickedly. The laugh was so intense that Eze tried closing his ear but before he did, he had already become deaf.
"Help, help, somebody help me." He shouted and cry.

The monsters continued to laugh and told Eze that they did not eat him because he was still a kid and he was not yet ripe for eating, but of course Eze could not hear this, he cried and ran home.

That was how he became deaf, nobody pities him as they blame him for not listening to his parents.
