A rude awakening in the heart of the night,
Slicing through the cleft of my slumber,
Taking a pound of my might,
Putting a merry slumber into sombre,
An evil stench glided in the rays of dark beams,
My courage is gone or so it seems.

I could see the curtains wavering ,
Cracks in my windows airing the wailing of the wind,
Shadows in the dark sauntering,
Melancholic tunes echoed in,
My might quenched like ends of a candle,
No fire in me to rekindle.

The sheets wriggle beneath me,
I could feel the breath of evil down my skin,
Downtrodden with shadows only to see,
The eyes of my reality were beginning to spin,
Reincarnation of the past skimmed through my mind,
Tales of the scary fairytales beginning to unwind.

I've felt this before, trapped in my memory,
I have to fight this evil in my abode,
I'm unconquerable, I can't share my glory,
On the winds of my dread, I rode,
A fight to the death for my body's ownership,
This demon won't sail my ship.

The beast was a part of my past,
I'm weary of the nightly visit,
Will take this fight to the end of the atlas,
Over her body will I spit,
I called out my demon,
And out of the lemonade, I had my whole lemon.

If you're to use rhythm in your poetry, you have to be consistent...
