See through by Ikpeme Kanong

A nightmare disguised as a day dream,
A shunt of expectations and a glimmer of hope,
False hope barely covering nudity,
It's a see through.

Confidence cool and hot as steam,
Climbing the walks of despair on a slope,
An obscurity barely showing clarity,
It's a see through.

Aspirations showing only a gleam,
With a darkness shallow in slope,
A faith barely showing dignity,
It's a see through.

Unpredictable like the tides of a steam,
Her extremities, one can't cope,
An oasis of Positivity,
It's a see through.

Summary : The poem consists of four stanzas, each with four lines and quite an irregular rhyme scheme, where line 1 rhymes with line 5, line 2 rhymes with line 6. It therefore becomes, abcd abcd abcd abcd.
The poem talks about layers in life, for instance in line 1, "A nightmare disguised as a day dream" this depicts a picture of wrong impressions, although the "false hopes barely covering nudity" paint a picture that no matter how much it disguises itself, it's false hopes doesn't hide the truth, making it "see through".
The second stanza gives a portrait of indifference, where confidence is "cold and hot" and climbs "walls of despair" on a "slope", which practically should be impossible but here depicts uncertainty, that barely shows clarity.

Subject matter : The poem consists of four stanzas which depict different topics but all wallowing around one idea, transparency. Transparency in the sense that, no matter the disguises, despair or extremities, there's always a playout that gives it up, hereby exposing it's "nudity" "clarity" and "dignity"

Symbolism : The symbolic elements used by the poet are powerful, portraying a perfect image of indecision and transparency, where "Aspirations" show only "gleams" and "faith" lacks "integrity".

"See through" Overall is a nice composition that engulfs the mind in thought and wonder about the juxtaposition of life and truth, which no matter how we try to hide them, become, see through.
