Before curious eyes gold shone so bright,
Bright enough that men had to stop to behold the glorious sight,
Like her kind, gold passed through hot fire,
To the wonder of many, it only made her fairer,

Gold glistened around as a lone ranger,
And later she joined a pack that shielded her from danger,
She had God as a lead and men at her feet,
But later, death had to bring itself as a breech

Gold's death shook the highest of mountains,
And it stopped the most raucous of fountains,
Gold didn't die alone, she took a part of her pack with her,
And with her went some of their wherewithal,

But I write to you today,
To tell you that Gold didn't die that day,
No! She lives on, quietly and obstinately,
She lives in me.
