Being the only child automatically makes you a King in your parents eyes. They can practically do anything for you to be happy. It was the situation Segun found himself in.
Segun is the only child of Mr and Mrs Badmus. Mr Badmus and his wife have searched for the fruit of the womb for 7 years before they gave birth to Segun, and after the birth of Segun they also tried having other children but it was futile. They had to resign to fate and took care of their only child.
Segun grew up to be an intelligent boy, he did well in his studies and always came first in class with little reading of his books. He had a magnetic mind and always assimilates during class, so little reading is required. He was also helpful at home, he runs errands for his parents and does all the things required of a boy of his age.
In all this good attributes of Segun, he had a single bad attitude which would later come to hurt him. Segun had the habit of constituting nuisance in class, and always causing mischief even at home. His Mother noticed it on time and tried her best to make amends, his teachers also tried correcting him stating that Good grades isn't enough to go far in life, an addition of good character is needed but all this fell on deaf ears. Until one faithful day.
Let's go to the stream; Segun said to his friends. On their way back they met a man and Segun made mockery of Him due to the size of his head, unknown to Segun he was the sponsor of the award that is going to be presented to the best Student in Pry 6, and he was just taking a stroll around the community.
Monday came and it was time to award the best pupils that passed the common entrance with flying colors and as usual Segun came tops. The Headmaster announced that there was a special award, a scholarship for the best pupil in the school, Segun was elated and was preparing to go out and get his award but got a shock when olamide was called instead.
There was an uproar in the crowd as to the choice because everyone knew Segun was the rightful winner until the sponsor of the award stepped forward and explained why he chose the second best and not Segun.
Segun was downcasted and made up his mind to change but it came at a cost.
