ATTITUDE
"Femi, why do you like to speak with Demi? Can't you see that he has nothing?" Emmy, a nine year old of Roo Primary School said to his friend, as he pointed at Demi their classmate.
"Oh...oh, Emmy! That's not fair. He has been in our class since last week, and even though he is quiet, that doesn't mean I shouldn't talk with him."
"Come on! That's not what I am saying, Femi. The boy doesn't bring food to school, or buy anything. You shouldn't relate with such a poor boy at all."
"That's harsh! Okay, I like him as a friend, and I see nothing bad in it."
Emmy made a long hiss that drew the attention of Demi. Demi looked towards their direction. "Hi friends," he said, waving at them.
"Will you shut up? Who is your friend?" Emmy attacked, drawing the attention of other classmates.
"What's that for? Stop it, Emmy! I don't like this attitude at all," he replied him, turning back to Demi. "How are you, Demi?"
"Fine," an embarrassed Demi said, lowering his gaze. He adjusted his seat and rested his head on the desk.
"That was bad of you, Emmy; I must say." He got up and went to meet Demi.
When Femi got home, he told his mom all that happened in school. His mom who knew Emmy to be her son's best friend, got annoyed.
"Femi, that's bad. I am glad you rebuked him for that. May I know Demi?"
"No problem, mom."
The next day, Femi's mom went to their school and asked to see Demi. She loved him so much that she started sending some to him through Femi.
Femi and Demi began to be best friends, while Emmy got jealous of them. Emmy advised Femi to stop being friends with Demi, but he never listened to him.
They all sat for their Common Entrance examination and came out in flying colours.
Femi's mom had planned to take her son and Emmy abroad, to further their education, before his condescending attitude, but then changed her mind to take Demi instead.
Femi told Emmy about their traveling. He became shocked that he went to meet his mom to know why he won't be the one to go with Femi.
She made it clear to him that his attitude toward others was bad. He pleaded to change for good, but Femi's mom took her stand on decision to let Demi go with Femi.
She said to him, "Treat others the way you'd want to be treated, and never look down on anyone."
Tears streamed down Emmy's face as he nodded in affirmation.
