It was break time as students went to have fun. Pauline, a twelve year old in Junior Secondary School class two, sat alone in class. There was one thing bothering her, as one could tell from her expression.

Her Senior, Jide, had asked her out and wanted sexual intimacy to exist between them, but she was yet to give him a response. Jide was one of the most neatest and handsome students in the highest class that many girls wished to be in a relationship with.

Kim, Pauline's friend was playing with some of her friends when she sighted Pauline looking like a confused individual. She drew closer to her and asked her what the problem was. Pauline, one who trusted Kim, poured out her mind to her.

"Oh, is that?" she asked with a raised eyebrow. "Pauline, you know what? Look at this plastic ring on my finger." She twirled it with a smile on her face.

"What's that? What's it for?" Pauline asked curiously.

"Well, mom gave it to me. This ring makes me say no to sexual engagement, and makes me concentrate on my books. How old are we, Pauline? We don't need that now. Don't put yourself in a position whereby you become a scapegoat in the school. Senior Jide? Hmm..." She chuckled dryly, moved closer to her and whispered. "You know my mom is a nurse. Make sure you don't tell anyone what I am about to tell you. He is a patient with gonorrhea."

"Oh my God, that can't be true."

"Look at you. Can't you see he is even the oldest person in school? He was at the hospital before the holiday ended two weeks ago. That day, I went to the hospital with mom as I had been fine staying home alone. I had gone out to get mom food at the Buka opposite the hospital, when I saw him going inside. I had to stay in one of mom's friends' office to allow him go before going to mom. When he had gone, I asked mom what the young man had come to do. Mom told me he had that... Pauline, if you do what you shouldn't do, you will see what you shouldn't see. Protect your dignity and do yourself proud first. Nevertheless, you need to know what you are doing."

"Jide was one of the most neatest..."

The word 'most' is not needed there.
