Since Sarafina got a cancer,
Emotionless — that's what she's become.
The one who gave her butter
When she could not afford half baked bread
Left her before she even fell sick.

Before death quenched her candlelight,
Mercy and love fled from her heart.
Lynching her neighbours' children,
She poured blames on their mothers' cup,
Masking the cancer and the pain
That drowned her love and compassion.

Instead of sending notes to her neighbours,
Sarafina allowed her cancer to trouble the sea
Of the neighbourhood they all sailed on,
Like Poseidon vexing at Odysseus.

I saw pictures of different mothers
With Sarafina in my mother's box— old pictures!
The rainbow bleeds because Sarafina
Has walked into the cave loneliness shields.
I wish that she wrote letters to other mothers,
Telling them that she's got a deadly cancer!
