LETTER TO SELF IN VERSES

Dear John, 

I know of your struggles;
The daily strife to always be relevant
and the numerous rejections you've
garnered while trying to do so.

I know you've had sleepless nights
and your days so far has been
one of sweats and illness
because of some resolve you've got,

I feel the hunger to always win in
your body everytime you pick up
either a book to digest or a pen
to create things of your own.

I've not forgotten you've acquired some
accolades on the journey your passion has
been leading you through and I also know
of the submitted manuscripts that were rebuffed.

But, John
Regardless of the rejections, I know you will not allow those voices
inside your head to prevail and make you
see how insurmountable the summit
you so much desire is,

I'm certain that you're
not going to let go of the hope
that you have been holding on to,
The one that's yet to stop spurring you on.

I do know that you would not
stop improving, the same way your idols
did not stop until they attained the kind
of relevance that you so much crave.
