Like a caged bird
Africa yearned to be free
Free from the shackles that draw her back
For without those chains
She will be free to fly and sing
Or so she thought
Like the cats in the zoo
Africa sniffed, seeking for loopholes
In the wall that set boundaries
Between the beasts and the outside world
Lions, leopards, jaguars
They saw promising opportunities
But in the thickest of forests
For the grass is always greener on the other side
Yea! So she thought.
Like fire bottled up and waiting for air
Africa was an inferno in making
She will burn through the dry leaves
Sparkling an audience irresistible by the adversaries.
Oh, the hunter must become the hunted
Sadly, she mustered
Sadly, she thought
Aye! She was not consulted in the partition
Aye! Berlin was a fate decider in absentia
Such was the excuse of the ancestors
For they seek freedom from the imperialist devils
From the North to the Southern apartheid
We could fly, we could run we could maneuver
Thoughts!!!
Alas! She was freed
From Freetown to Lagos
From Monrovia to Hutus and Tutsis
There is now division in the unity
Like an abandoned slave
We know not what to do with our freedom
And enslaved once more
