I Know a Friend
I know a friend that eats fire and ice,
He is generous, he is the root of all we have,
His face sees many cruelty but still beam with smile,
He causes laughter, he is the reason for the cries,
It is his nature to compete with the stars,
Oh generous friend! Do not take more than you give.
I know a friend that can never be ignored,
The food is with him and he provides the shelter,
He is easy going, calmness is his watchword,
He eats a lot and still complain of hunger,
Amazing! This unique friend is never satisfied.
I know a companion, he was here from the unset,
We still live with him even when he gets us upset,
He is the king but he is our sit,
He runs the errand but he is always lit,
We recognise the smirk in his face, we must pay for all it task.
I know a friend that loves equally,
He takes everyone as a close ally,
He his known to treat men squarely,
His home is made free for all man,
Sometimes we hate his generosity,
He does not go close to inequity.
Dear friend! When will this tears stop?
There is no free gift in your world,
We see young and old souls that you have griped,
A happy home that you have ruined,
I know we all have a place in your abode,
But do not consume us when we are on our prime,
You are taking too much. Oh merciless earth.
