CONFESSION
I am starting to fall in love with him,
But trying to control my emotion.
It's been a very long time I had such closeness with a guy;
All the same, it feels as though I can't hide it.
He is so soft in words,
Cool like the breeze,
Tender in heart,
And too handsome to be ignored.
My best friend doesn't look happy;
It's written all over her.
But how do I substitute my happiness for someone else's sadness?
How is that possible?
In as much that I don't want to hurt her,
I should be smart enough in this situation.
Whatever will happen would happen;
I am in love already.
I am a lady with powers---
Powers to make a guy fall for me.
I shouldn't let him slip off my hands;
Hence, what'd be my gain?

CRITIQUE ON CONFESSION
Confession is an excellent poem by the amazing Victor Apata.
The twenty line poem is an embodiment of its title, it's written in form of a narration, where the speaker opens up about her uncontrollable feelings towards a male character. It also speaks about a best friend whom feeling's could be considered but isn't. The poet's ability to submerge two different ideas in twenty lines is commendable. There is also a good use of a rhetorical question at the very last line of the poem, this shows the use of creativity in the poem.
The piece, however has a deficit of expressive imageries which would have helped to give the readers a more vivid view of the writer's intention.
The poem, overall is a beautiful piece that exuberantly expresses the wonders of love, the unpredictability of someone in love and the paramount issue of choosing between a lover and a best friend.
