EMANCIPATION
"I seek to be free, to be at ease.
Life, so mean, cruel,
Turns its space into a duel.
I seek to be free, even while not at ease."
Tears flowed freely from our eyes as we read my sister's diary. It was one of her beautiful poems. My mother alongside Father busted into tears. Sadness was scribbled all over our face.
"So this is what my country gave me in return after my 50 years of service?" Father, a retired soldier said in his tear-furrowed voice.
All happened on 25th of October, 2021. I was called that my sister, Bolanle has been massacred. She was killed in the most inhumane manner.
Even though my mother warned her, she was part of the a protest in my country. There, with many other she was killed.
Fighting for the freedom of her dear country, but she became bond by death never to live.
O wuní ka jẹ ràn pẹ lẹnu,
But the constant yearning for affection displayed by the throat strongly disagrees.
Only if my dreams were birth into reality,
And not lost to the cold hands of miscarriage.
If wishes were horses,
My Begger will gladly take a swing and ride,
I wish the world of reality was an ocean,
I will gladly ride my dreams but my hands are tied.
As a proverb in my father's land,
O wuní ka bú òkèlè ni rọrun.
To fly and soar high across the skies,
Amò ọmọ aráyé o jẹ.
