Where I am from,
poverty is a gift!
It's necessarily not
a reward of gallivanting,
it's definitely a family symbol.
At a time,
our last name could
have been changed to
poverty but it was enough
as the skin we wore.
I began life
sucking from penurious tit,
how else could I have grown
without poverty making
up my body tissues.
Poor feeding to me
meant chewing poverty
with tears in your eyes
and smile on your lips.
Where do we go from here?
I suggest we flirt
a little with blame games.
Let's blame it on fate,
that should give us solace.
Maybe we should blame our ancestors,
for leaving behind weak limbs
that can't move from rung to rung
up the ladder of success.
Our fathers have planted,
the sour grapes of poverty,
leaving for us enormous
inheritance of penury.
But, as deviant prodigal sons
we intend to squander every
bit of our inheritance till
we're left with nothing but riches.
