It was just supposed to be another boring day at school. I looked at the schedule and I understood why I just hated Monday. First I had English class after which I had chemistry, both were handled by Mr Ikechukwu, the teacher I disliked the most. Who would have thought that I would one day thank God for making him come and teach in our school.

Mrs Sharon, the Engine teacher had just finished teaching us idioms. I was already anticipating another round of flogging that day. I was sure Mr Ikechukwu was going to find a fault in the assignment we submitted last week and of course he would certainly flog us for our mistakes.

Mr Ikechukwu walked into the class with a tall boy. He was tall, he had a killer smile and his dress style showed me that he wasn't a fashion paux. Mr Ikechukwu introduced him to us as his in- law's son. He told him to go and sit next to me.

"Dumbass, right?" he said pointing to Mr Ikechukwu as soon as he sat down. I smiled and replied with a nod even as I added cool to my mental list of his attributes.

"Will you both keep quiet or do you want me to use my cane to teach you how to shut up?" Mr Ikechukwu shouted.

We were quiet all through the class. I was just realizing that I didn't ask for his name when someone slid a piece of paper into my right hand. Sure enough it was him. On the paper was written a tercet that ended with 'My name is Bode.'

He writes poetry, I said out loud. My countenance fell as quickly as it had risen.

"His name is Bode, he is Yoruba", I said to myself.
